Over summer, I got the amazing opportunity to travel to Europe and explore Germany, Italy, Spain and Austria. Throughout this trip I took many pictures, including rural landscapes. The green scenery was enchanting and it was hard to not take any pictures of it!I It felt like every five minutes I would stop and take a picture of the breathtaking scenery. My previous blog post is of the photos I took on that trip.

My latest photoshoot was practice for my AP concentration. It consisted of me taking practice portraits and getting the lighting and angles right so when I need to shoot my portraits for my concentration I will be prepared. For this shoot I shot my little sister and a few of my friends, when the date comes for me to shoot the actual portraits for my concentration, I will be taking pictures of my family members and their raw emotions during a time of mourning. Although I did not have all the supplies (lights, backdrop etc.) it was nice getting familiar with the angels I want and the natural light, however I will be using lights when the actual day comes. All in all, it was nice to hold a camera again with the intentions of shooting for a purpose and not just for the joy of it. This shoot has me looking forward to when I shoot my concentration.
For my independent photography project i took portraits only of reflections. Each of my images are of a mirror not the actual person. I was inspired by the idea that you will never truly be able to look at yourself unless you are staring in a mirror or looking at a picture. I am also fascinated with the multitude of things you can do with a mirror to manipulate your image. I made each image black and white because it adds more focus on the shapes and subjects. Recently more than 2 million women and men, around the nation, marched standing up for human rights and representing the rights and voices of progressive people across the world. this was my inspriation for this assignment. I used different sets of eyes and color burned them over a old picture of a pin up girl. they eyes represent how women everywhere are taking a stand for themselves and humans in general. I used the phrase, eyes wide shut to symbolize how everyone thinks they know what they are talking about but in reality their eyes aren't open to the whole picture and they are mostly thinking of themselves. I incorporated the pin up girl because I wanted to symbolize that most men view women as just a pretty face, but there's a lot more to us then just that. I put the letters over her breast as a way to show how boobs are offensive, to some and not acceptable to show in todays society.
My universal object I used was a big white v-neck t shirt. I chose this object because I wanted to show how no matter what your gender or age or species is, you can by pass the typical stereotype of what to wear. My first image is of a butterfly, I took this because caterpillars transform into butterflies, a huge change. My next image is of trees, with different colored leaves. I took this because I wanted to show how leaves change color every season. My next 4 images are apart of a series. I wanted to show how much a person changes from when you were a baby/toddler. Not only do they change physically, but they also develop their own personality. Who's to say what is real or not? to me, what is really was based off of my personal thoughts. My first image is based off of what I thought wasn't real as a child. The faces in the back symbolize how everyone has a different view of god, thats why there are multiple faces. My 2nd image is of a girl looking in a mirror. Her reflection is looking back at her and about to touch her face. My last image i wanted to perceive it to be like a dream. A butterfly surrounded by butterflies.
This summer was amazing! I went to Cabo with a family I nanny for, which was an amazing experience. Then when I was back in the states I went to California for my birthday. I went on a family trip to Ensenada, Mexico. In Mexico a few family friends and I snuck into an abandoned hotel and got caught by security... but lucky didn't get in too much trouble. I had a great summer and I'm so sad that it is over. |
